I’m a South African who did a BSc at the University of Cape Town, and a BSc(H) at Rhodes University, both of them in mathematics and computer science. Later, I finished a research MA on ‘Logic and the Limits of Explanation’, also at UCT. Just before coming to NYU I had a lecturing post in philosophy at the University of Zululand, South Africa.

Along the way I’ve learnt outside of universities too. It all started with ‘junior programming’, but my teaching work has been more important to me. I taught maths in Johannesburg, English in Mokpo, South Korea, and snowboarding in Tahoe, USA. For a few months I picked bananas in Rosh Hanikra, Israel—voluntarily.
