HYUNSEOP KIM is a fourth-year Ph.D. student. He is mainly interested in ethics, political and legal philosophy, and epistemology. He is working on his dissertation about population ethics, tentatively titled ‘What We Owe to Our Descendents’, in which he attempts a pluralistic account of our obligation toward future people. The topics that currently interest him also include consequentialism, well-being, active externalism about the content of conative states, the relation among reasons, desires and causes, quasi-realism, and the value of truth.
He majored in law as an undergraduate at Seoul National University. After passing the Korean Bar Exam, he studied at the Judicial Research & Training Institute in Korea and served as a Judge Advocate. He sat on the bench in Korea for a while before he came to NYU in 2006.
